Our branch AGM is on Tuesday 17th June at the Friends (Quaker) Meeting House, Jesus Lane, Cambridge.

by Admin - Tuesday, 22 April 2008, 03:59 PM
Don't forget that we will be collecting outside local Tesco stores next week from Monday 28th until Sunday 4th.

There's still time to volunteer if you can spare an hour or two. Call in at either of our charity shops in Cambridge or Newmarket.

Volunteers needed for Jumble Sale
by Admin - Tuesday, 29 January 2008, 11:15 AM

Ffiona is planning to organise the first jumble sale for goods donated to the Cambridge shop which are not quite good enough to sell there but are of "jumble-sale" quality.

The sale will be on a Saturday in a few weeks time, and will be held in one of the community halls on Mill Road. If you might be able to help, please email rspca_camshop@animail.net or drop in at the main shop at 188 Mill Road.

Eventually we hope to have a regular sale every month so that we can make the best possible use of donated items.

Of course, we also need donations. Please keep them coming!

Training day for new clinic volunteers
by Admin - Tuesday, 22 January 2008, 01:59 PM

We will be holding a training day for people who are interested in volunteering to help with reception at our animal clinic. If you would like to come, please email reception@rspca-cambridge.org.uk

The date is not yet fixed, so it would be very helpful if you could give some idea of when you would be able to attend. It will probably be a Sunday to avoid clashing with actual clinic sessions.
Reminder: Bookshop opens tomorrow!
by Admin - Sunday, 13 January 2008, 08:39 PM
The refurbished bookshop at 188 Mill Road, Cambridge will open tomorrow (14th January) at 10 am.

Please do try to look in during the week to support the staff and volunteers who have done an absolutely fantastic job working to get it ready.

Special thanks to Wayne for spending all his weekends getting the shelving and counters built.

Do have a look at Andrew's amazing window display. This is not yet quite finished, so you may need to check again towards the end of the week.
Work off the Christmas pudding!
by Admin - Monday, 3 December 2007, 02:46 PM

Our general charity shop at 188 Mill road will be closed over the holiday period 25th December to 7th January and reopen as a refurbished and enlarged second-hand books, music, and video store. The existing bookshop at 184 will be converted to a specialised vintage/retro clothing and bric-à-brac shop.

We will need lots of volunteers to help with packing and shelving the new stock. If you might be able to help, even just for a few hours, please email Ffiona at the main shop.

Volunteers needed to collect and sort donated items
by Admin - Tuesday, 4 September 2007, 04:24 PM
Our new house-clearance service continues to expand and we urgently need more volunteers who would be willing to help with this. Manual handling training will be given, but you don't need to be particularly strong as much of the work simply involves sorting and boxing items such as clothes, books and ornaments so that they can be transported to the shops. Anyone with use of a car to transport boxes would be particularly valuable. If you think you might be able to help, please phone 01223 212 644 and ask to speak to Fiona or Andrew.
Family Fun Day - 40 Oakington Road, Dry Drayton CB23 8DD
by Admin - Tuesday, 14 August 2007, 02:57 PM
  Sunday 19th August 2pm onwards

Cream Tea, lots of stalls, Clock Golf, Croquet etc. etc.

Admission free, but donations of pet food and/or items that can be sold in our Cambridge charity shop would be appreciated (we can make money from worn or damaged clothing as this is sold for recycling, but other items need to be in saleable condition, please).

Claire's family have very kindly opened their gardens for this event - please try to attend and make it a great success.

Home Visitors Training Day 24th June
by Admin - Monday, 11 June 2007, 03:47 PM

RSPCA volunteer home visitors are responsible for pre-adoption visits to prospective animal adopters. This helps to ensure that new pet owners are fully aware of what they are taking on and reduces the number of animals returned to the branch when owners become aware that they have "bitten off more than they can chew".

This is an experimental information, training and discussion area for volunteers and members of the RSPCA Cambridge and District branch. It is intended to focus on the local animal welfare activities of the branch (for example our animal clinic). Anyone else is very welcome to browse the open parts of the site as a guest, or create your own login name and profile to register an interest in the branch. Some areas are private to various groups of helpers, mostly to make it possible for them to have discussions without the embarassment of a public audience. As this site is hosted in the web space of one branch volunteer committee member it's possible that it might need to be taken down at short notice if activity reaches levels which overload the server. This site is not intended as a source of veterinary advice. If your own animal is ill, you should consult a vet.

If you would like to make a donation to support the work of the branch, you can do this via the secure Charities Aid Foundation website

The Cambridge and District Branch covers an area of South Cambridgeshire from Littleport in the North to just beyond Royston in the South and from Gamlingay in the West to Newmarket in the East. Towns within the branch area include Ely, Newmarket, Royston, Cambridge, Soham and Littleport.
